9 weeks....

It is safe to say in the last 5 years since moving from Perth, I have spent my fair share of time at Airports. I still remember the day we left Perth. As I sat in my seat, clutching Daniels hand, tears streaming down my cheeks, holding closely to Emery who was just 5 months at the time. I looked out the window, and tears flooded my eyes as reality hit in of what was happening. Moving across the other side of the country, just [then] the three of us, chasing something that we felt so strongly would be the next chapter of our lives.

Living away from loved ones there have been many trips to and from Airports. Each time I have collected someone who is visiting us there is such happiness, and then taking them back so they can return home there is sadness as they leave. Holding tight to the memories we have made in those moments they have been with us.

When we return home to Perth there is such excitement brewing as in just a few hours we will be reunited with our loved ones.  As we come home there are many tears (more and more lately as both children realise the distance!) as we give lots of hugs and say goodbye, again holding on to memories made, and beginning to count down the days until we see them again.

In my many airport visits I have noticed others, sharing moments unaware of others around them.

I think of the young girl who traveled in the seat in front of us recently, unaccompanied minor, in care of the Flight Attendant, waiting until the plane had emptied to join us in the terminal. I didn’t know her story, I wondered, is she returning home? Is she holidaying? As she entered the terminal I watched from afar as she ran with such speed to another young girl, they held each other so tightly, tears of joy as they kept hugging. They then joined the adults waiting with them, and walked arm in arm into the distance. Sisters? Friends? Cousins? I’ll never know, but I know in that moment I was reminded of the many happy times of coming home to loved ones, feeling their embrace after 4 hours on a plane. Walking with them, many stories spilling out as we connected after months apart.

I remember being the young mother, saying goodbye to her children and husband and walking away from them as the children cried for me, pulling at my heartstrings, as I left for a course in Melbourne for two weeks.

I see the couple embrace for an extended time as one walks away, tears streaming down their cheeks.

I know the feeling of being the one coming off the Airplane, waiting for that moment you lock eyes with the one waiting for you, your heart leaps for joy as your walk speeds up so you can reach them that little bit quicker.

I have also witnessed the incredible amounts of Krispy Crème donuts that people bring when leaving Melbourne to loved ones waiting for them, or maybe just for themselves to enjoy in days to come.
Goodbyes are really hard, as you say goodbye to loved ones that have visited you and shared moments in your world. They are hard when you’ve been on holidays, living the dream and now needing to return to reality.  But the beauty of goodbyes is that there are always the times you are reunited with loved ones, where your heart is filled when you are with them, where the stories flow of times missed together and memories made in those moments.

Living away from family is hard it is bittersweet. It has made me stronger and it has made me appreciate my family so much more. It has made me realize what we take for granted. As I live away from them, especially now having my own children, it hurts each time I say goodbye, and the countdowns are getting bigger and bigger to give us something to be excited for.

But I know that Adelaide is where we are meant to be, for such a time as this. Who knows where we will end up, but what I do know is that my children love their family in Perth so much and I am so incredibly thankful for the times people call just to say hi, when they send a little note in the mail to surprise us and I am super thankful for Skype, Facetime and the internet!!

I am thankful for the friends and family we have now in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, because as we’ve moved around we have been blessed with more and more family to love and to do life with us.

Today I said goodbye to my Mum, I was brave….mostly. I fought back tears as I gave her the biggest hug, so thankful that she had come to visit with Dad, who had left just days before to return to work. I waited until she walked back past me for just one last wave, one last smile, one last kiss blown through the air, for now. I turned and the tears flowed, she caught me as I glanced back for one last smile.

All the while reminding myself that it is just 9 weeks until I see them again!

Farewell Speech & Thankyous...

Last Sunday was our last Sunday at Morley Salvation Army, so we had to say goodbye to many of those who have supported us over the past few years...below is my speech that I delivered (without crying!)...photos to come later.

So the time has come that this is all real and actually happening. In a weeks time we leave Perth and arrive in Melbourne to start the next chapter of our lives. The chapter that God has planned especially for us as husband and wife to be in Ministry together for Him.

Daniel and I for our wedding bands have three rings as joint as one, and this is a testament that in our marriage God is amongst it. And so as we head into ministry together our rings are a constant reminder that God has called us to this together and he will also guide us and give us strength to face the days ahead.

We have been greatly blessed to be apart of a fantastic small group here at Morley for the last 3 years and this has been a massive support for us in getting where we are today. 3 couples getting together for a meal and then growing together as we explored many different ways of looking at Gods word and growing together as we challenged, supported, struggled and rejoiced! To this we thank Steve & Marenda, Matt & Emma for the great times we have had together.

We thank Phil for his guidance as a Youth Pastor in our years here as we've grown as leaders and explored Ministry in different ways. To you all here at Morley Corps we Thankyou for your support in our preparation in getting to College. Our fundraiser was a huge success thanks to the support we had on the evening. Because of your overwhelming support we were able to raise the funds we needed plus more which will go to assisting us in paying our course fees, living expenses at the college and also childcare fees for Emery. We Thankyou for your continued prayer support as we know in the times where we have struggled with wether this is what we should be doing or not, there have been people praying for us and always God has confirmed to us that this is it.

Thankyou to the junior soldiers for your fundraising for us and for acknowledging Emery and assigning her a Prayer Pal. She is a huge part of our lives and having been an officer kid I know that at times she will struggle, but knowing there are people praying for her especially, I hope and pray that she will come to love Jesus and will have the heart of a servant as she experiences ministry in different forms over her life.

And to our families, we know that it's going to be hard letting us go, but we also know that you support us 100% and will continue to wherever our Ministry takes us. Because of your love and guidance in our lives as you have brought us up, we have grown to love Jesus and follow his ways. We know you will also be praying for us and Emery and that we will be constantly uplifted in prayer.
A verse I am taking with me to college is Phillipians 4:13 and I love reading it from the message version which reads: whatever I have, where ever I am I can make it thru anything in the one who makes me who I am!This verse reassures me that God will get me through all circumstances I face in college and then as we do ministry wherever He has placed us.

kicks

Baby,
I feel you kicking me,
it's the most amazing feeling ever,
knowing that you are moving around,
growing ever so strong.
Your daddy says you are a boy,
you are kicking me in sticking up for him.
I laugh.
Your heartbeats so fast, but its so healthy.
Each day I can't believe that I'm going to be a mummy.
I could lay all day with my hands on my tummy feeling you move,
the excitement in your daddy's eyes the first time he felt you was magical.
I could lay all night with him feeling you move.
I love you child,
thanks for the lessons in life you are already teaching me.
The miracle of life continues to blow my mind.
Keep kicking,
Love your mummy

dear baby smith

dear baby smith, everyday i am amazed at the way you are growing inside me, from your very conception to right now, you are still forming in my womb. your being created into the individual person that God has planned for you to be. already He knows the plans He has for your life, already He loves you. the intricate details like the hairs on your head to your finger prints are already being formed. i am so excited to meet you and so is your daddy. are you a little boy or a little girl? who will you look like? what will your interests be as you grow up? i can't wait for the moment that you come into this world and make the beginnings of our little family. i could sit all day dreaming of what it will be like when you come into this world, how much our lives will change, but how fantastic it will be to care for you and show you life. we want to show you the best life we possibly can, we want to be able to provide for you with all your needs, we want to show you love at all times, but also discipline you, we want to guide you in your life as you grow and make decisions as you grow older. we may not always get it right but please know we will always love you and do our best, each day learning together, and sharing in each moment of your life. we love you precious child love mummy xx

Storing up treasures..

How much stuff do you have? what possessions do you treasure? Do you have things that hold special meaning of loved ones?
So many questions for you...but seriously look around you, are you in your bedroom? loungeroom? kitchen? what things do you see when you look around?
I'm sitting at my mums dining table and around me I see many things photos, treasured china, craft supplies, candles, pottery. So many things that she treasures and has collected in her lifetime. I see pieces that remind me of when we lived in Tasmania, and a money box that was my mum's granddads.
I work in an opshop, and everyday we get plenty of donations, peoples belongings that they do not want in their life anymore. Lately we have had a few people dropping donations in that have belonged to a parent who has passed away, or they have moved into a nursing home..it's really made me think. Over our lifetimes we collect treasures that hold dear memories for us, but what happens when we leave this world? Do others treasure it as much as we do, or do they get rid of it all with not even a second thought of how much it meant to the owner. Do loved ones purely get rid of these belongings because they don't know the value in memories that each item may hold.
What will happen to my beloved possessions that hold so many memories? Is there any point in having such things?
I believe that we need these things in our life, around my own house I have treasures which have special memories attached to them, I also have treasures that have no meaning I just like them. As much as I believe that we should have these things in our life, I also believe that it is important not to put our whole emphasis on material things. At the end of our time, people will clear out our treasures, they may hold onto some that means something to them, but what they will hold onto most is the time that we have spent with them to create memories.
Matthew 6: 19-21“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Captivated..

I'm such a sucker for Sunsets! I have soooo many pictures on my laptop of sunsets that I have taken over the years...and when I add more hubby always comments 'oh not another one!' Today driving home from work, I was captivated by another beautiful sunset.
Dark blue/purple clouds, with the sun creating a white light outline. Then the sun bursting out with rays, filling the sky, saluting the day that had been. The sky was still its usual pale blue, but with a hint of warm yellow from the rays being thrown into it.
Am I painting an ok picture? maybe yes, maybe no. Maybe this sunset was just for me to see, to be captured by its beauty.... I would of taken a picture to share, but couldn't really grab my phone and do it quickly without being caught, so for me its locked in my memory. For you I too hope you find beauty in the simplest things. Things God has created for us to enjoy. His creation. His signature.
What captivates you??
- just one of the many I have taken -

Here comes the Bride..

Today I am off to a friends wedding, and as my 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up in 1 month I thought I'd share some pics from my wedding....
...my beautiful bridesmaids and I... I had my two sisters and my cousin, chosen because these 3 girls means the world to me and I love them so much, and who wouldn't want them there all day, helping me get ready, helping me with my dress and just being there to support
...the Bride and Groom... I can't believe we've been married 2 years. Everyday brings different challenges, but I wouldn't not take back or change a thing!
...the complete Bridal Party... Taken at Hyde Park, I love the Black and White photos. I chose Black bridesmaids dresses as I think Black and White is so Elegant, we had pink to accessorise and I'm really happy with how it all went so well together!
Ah Weddings, don't you just love them!?

She's engaged!!

My sister is engaged!!! We got the call tonight...well actually we had been waiting all day for the call, cos her fiance' told us he was doing it, and they have gone away for the weekend...and it was done, at sunset at a beautiful lookout! How sweet.
So it got me thinking of when Dan proposed to me...It was at City Beach (Perth, WA), he set out a picnic blanket and as he did he dropped to one knee and held a stencilled skateboard (shown above) in front of him....I didn't actually say yes, I just kissed him, laughed, was in shock, and then if I remember rightly he had to ask again, and then I answered 'YES, of course!!'. Life is such a journey!! but when you find that someone special it makes it so much better, journeying together, through the ups and downs that life throws at you. My hubby is great, and I don't think I tell him enough. He's one creative guy. I hope you find someone as special as him!!

My little sister #2

My little sister #2...
isn't she just the cutest?! ok so now she's actually 19 and this photo is really old, but she's still just as cute...She has this huge heart for people, she'll make you laugh till your sides hurt with her sense of humour! She loves a challenge and will always do it with 100% effort put in. She doesn't realise her true value and beauty! But she is gorgeous, dark eyes, dark hair, people reckon she's Italian but she's not...She's creative, has a beautiful voice when she sings and her little 'beauty spot' on her right cheek is just the beginning of her beauty! Look furthur in and you'll see so much more than meets the eye...
I love her so much and appreciate all she is and does! She's one of my best friends. Love you Nat Rat.xx

Me and Mandy Moo

This is my little sister (1 of 2) and I when we were much younger!! I love this pic, and so many times we have joked and said we should reenact it, but sadly there are many things needed to do so!! One day we shall do it, just for the laughs!! Today I have the flu, well have done for 5 days now and ive really had enough of it. I hate being stuck on the couch wasting the day away! There is so much more I would love to be doing like sewing & creating. But I was just checking out some pics and saw this and was instantly reminded of a letter this lil sis wrote me...she is really one for taking time out to inspire others..she wrote me this email about achieving my dreams and her believing I can do it..It brought me to tears, because so often I doubt myself. This letter I will keep forever, and when I achieve my dreams I shall frame it for all to see, to show that my lil sister believed in me and knew her big sister would achieve my dreams!! She knows Im determined!! When I was younger I wanted my nose peirced and well dad thought he was safe saying if she had it done I could as she hates needles! For ages I bribed her, begged on my knees and just kept pushing it! But no she didn't want it done, well the rest is history because today we both have our noses peirced and Dad couldn't believe it when she said she would! But its something we share, and something that shows my determination! Manda Moo, I love you!! Thankyou!

A lovely Sunday afternoon...

Well I just got back from a lovely sunday afternoon out in beautiful Perth. Hubby and I started at Made on the Left, how inspiring, there is so much WA talent out there!! Such a range of beautiful handmade goods!!! I brought some flowers from Wire and Paper, my aunty has just been diagnosed with Leukemia and is undergoing treatment, so she can't have beautiful fresh flowers, so these were just a perfect gift for her!! There was lots of other things I would of loved to have brought, but I really didn't have enough money, note to self save hard before going to the next MOTL.
Life has got me thinking lately, so much has happened, life is so fast, and life is SO precious!! We don't know what will happen tomorrow, but for me its living using my passions, skills and gifts that God has blessed me with and using them as much as I can. I don't know where my life is going, I can plan it, but I believe God is in control and things happen, so make the most of TODAY. Don't wait till tomorrow.

Memories from Photographs

So this weekend hubby is away, so im staying at the folks, not cos im scared (well ok maybe a little) but mainly cos I love the chance to be home with my family...but mums knitting, dads out and Nat (little little sis) is sick in bed and Manda (little sis) is out also. So I cut some patterns out, ready to sew tomorrow night (stay tuned for finished products!!), and now I am finding myself on the computer looking at some old stuff of mine, mainly some photos I have taken. Its nice to look back on photos, each one of them has so many memories, some good, some bad, but each has a story, and that is why I love photography, it captures that very moment. So I thought I'd share some....
(Left) This was taken down Mandurah, on this look out, near a friends holiday house. I was sitting on a lookout, over looking the ocean (so peaceful), I was with hubby (back then we had only just started dating), and we were heading home that day but I had just wanted to get some pictures of the ocean, I would love to get this printed on a canvas. (Right) This was taken in the beautiful Tasmania!!! I went there on a holiday 6 yrs ago, after living there for 5yrs, leaving when I was 15, and then this holiday when I was 19. This was taken on the road to Sheffield, this little town of Murals, most of the walls of shops have murals which tell the towns history!! This picture is Cradle mountain in the distance (pretty sure) and it actually has snow on it (the closest I got to snow that trip). (Left) This is how hubby proposed to me!!! Yes he's a skater boy, and he used his creativity which I thought was awesome!! We still have the board, I think I shall keep it forever :) Thats just a few, there are so many more, I could be here all night sharing memories and photos, but I won't.. Night Night
